Cogeneration: Progress Report

Many electricity generators produce heat that is wasted in cooling towers and damaging to the environment. If this heat could be used rather than wasted, the efficiency of the power stations could be almost doubled. The Commission reports that Member States are slow to report on what they are doing to promote the new technology (called cogeneration or combined heat and power (CHP)) to make this change.
