Global Monitoring for Environment and Security: GMES

The Commission is preparing an earth observation programme to provide information, mainly from satellites, to help monitor global warming and climate change. It will monitor things like air quality, chemicals in the atmosphere and changes in the oceans and icecaps. The system will also provide useful maps and other data for emergency and security services.
