‘No’ to Forest Expansion

Local opposition to the expansion of a rare, ancient forest in Poland is likely to stifle a plan proposed by Poland’s Ministry of the Environment. The Ministry proposes investing €23 million in northeastern Poland to expand the Bialowieza National Park. Locals are set to block the plan however as the proposal will prevent them from cutting down trees for fuel and collecting wild mushrooms and berries.
