84% Support a Ban on Tobacco at Work

20 March 2009
The vast majority of EU citizens support a smoke-free working environment, according to the 2008 Eurobarometer survey on tobacco. Although 84% of respondents support workplace smoking restrictions, a fifth of European workers are still exposed to tobacco smoke at the workplace on a daily basis. The study, published on 19 March, focused on smoking habits and consumption patterns of tobacco, smoking at home and at the workplace and the effectiveness of health warnings on tobacco packs. It was requested by DG Health and Consumers and surveyed citizens from the 27 Member States and Norway.
