Air Pollution Link to Dementia

23 October 2009
A study carried out by a team from Heinrich-Heine University in Düsseldorf claims to have found a link between air pollution and dementia. Researchers tested almost 400 women aged between 68 and 79 and found that the closer the women lived to busy roads, the worse they performed in the tests. It is believed that this may be because fine particles in air pollution can pass through the lungs and lodge in the brain where they cause inflammation which is associated with dementia.
