Anti-GM Protests in Spain

Thousands of protestors took to the streets in Zaragoza, Spain recently to demand GMO-free food and farming. Spain produces the highest volume of GM crops in Europe, which has led to growing unease among some Spanish environmentalists. These fears have been compounded by Germany’s recent prohibition on cultivating GM crops. Germany banned the cultivation of GM maize strain MON810, which is authorised for cultivation by the EU, on the grounds that it was a danger to the environment.
