Approval for Turkish Poultry Exporters

Seven Turkish companies have been listed as approved exporters of processed poultry products to the EU. This measure is effective as of 29 March 2009, and reflects significant development both in terms of size and safety of the Turkish poultry sector. An EU inspection in 2005 reported that the country’s Residue Monitoring Plan was “generally in line with EU requirements”. Over 500,000 people are employed in the sector, which has an annual turnover of around €2.3bn. The companies listed as approved exporters cover 70% of the Turkish market.
