Arcobacter in Foods Discovered

19 May 2009
Arcobacter, an emergent foodborne and waterborne pathogen, is widely distributed in several food sources, according to a new study. Spanish scientists from the Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Reus investigated the prevalence of this food-borne pathogen in 203 samples of meat and shellfish. Arcobacter was found in 32% of the samples. The highest percentage was found in clams, chicken, pork, mussels and duck meat, while rabbit meat had the lowest prevalence rate. No Arcobacter was found in sausages, oysters and frozen shrimps.
