Bee Tracker Developed in Bulgaria

05 June 2009
An automated system that can deliver constant information about the condition of bees has been developed in Bulgaria. Beekeepers will be able to monitor data inputs from different hives via a remote control on diseases, contamination, temperature and noise levels. Bees can fly 30-40 times a day, and harmful substances in the air or on plants can easily contaminate the hive on their return. The scientists behind the device describe it as a means of ecological monitoring, with data capable of being stored for 20 years. Bees, which have been disappearing around the world, play a vital role, pollinating as many as 85% of the plants on the planet.
