Belgian Volvo Plant Cuts Emissions

Belgian lorry factory Volvo Trucks has become the first plant of its kind to get all its electricity from sources that do not generate CO2 emissions. The lorry maker launched a €10m joint venture with energy supplier Electrabel to obtain electricity and heating from sources that include hydroelectric plants, oil-based bio-heaters and windmills. The Volvo Trucks plant has also instituted changes to cut its energy use. Taken together, these initiatives have led to a significant reduction in power consumption at the factory.
