Benefits of Phytosterols

Phytosterols, plant sterols found in grain legumes, cereal grains, vegetable oils and nuts, can protect cells from damage caused by the uncontrolled growth of cells which eventually lead to cancer, according to studies published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Scientists found that that phytosterols increase the activities of antioxidant enzymes, which might mean they can protect cells from damage. Though further research is needed, the scientists are confident that phytosterols appear to inhibit the development of various cancers.
