Building and repair workers such as carpenters, plumbers, electricians and joiners are at significantly more risk from contracting asbestos-related cancer than other professions, says a British study. One in 17 carpenters born in the 1940 will suffer from mesothelioma, a lung cancer caused by asbestos. The study anticipates a peak of deaths due to mesothelioma around 2015. A UK campaign was launched in 2008 to raise awareness among building workers, using the slogan “You are more at risk than you think!”
