CO2 Labelling Scheme Begins

Sweden has gone ahead with a controversial scheme to label foods with a notice indicating the amount of carbon produced to make them. The scheme, which was announced in summer, is now being implemented in restaurants, cafes and supermarkets across the country. Criticism of the scheme centres on the imprecision of calculating emissions from particular foods. Many have argued that the range of factors involved in food production means that it is impossible to calculate the exact amount of carbon produced in making food.
