Colourings: Routine Non-Compliance

A study by the French Ministry for the Economy has found that 42% of confectionery products do not comply with EU legislation on food colourings. Two thirds of these cases are due to erroneous labelling, including the absence of certain colourings mentioned on product labels. The other third of cases is more serious, and concerns products that contain prohibited colourings such as amaranth E123 and erythrosine E127. Some products also contain levels of colourings that exceed the maximum amount.
