Concern over Product Placement

A public consultation on a proposal to allow product placements in UK-made TV programmes has raised concerns that kids could be exposed to the marketing of unhealthy food and drink products. The UK organisation Sustain is urging concerned consumers to urge the government to abandon the proposals. Even though EU rules prevent product placement in any programmes aimed specifically at a child audience, the organisation claims that the move would inevitably lead to the greater promotion of junk food to young people.
