Concrete Accident in Malta

08 June 2009
Major injuries were avoided after a crane collapsed during concrete hoisting at a construction site north of Valetta in Malta. The concrete, which was being moved into position as part of a high rise development, fell onto another building, bringing electricity lines down with it. Although no reports of injuries were received, the accident is being investigated. Construction projects in Malta continue to spring up, despite the fact that there are over 55,000 vacant properties in the country. Frenetic building activity has had an adverse effect on the island’s air quality.
