Contractor Fined Over Death

14 July 2009
A concrete contractor has been fined over £150,000 following the death of one of its workers, a UK judge has ruled. A 54 year old man who was working on a construction site died in January 2004 when a 300kg platform fell on him and a colleague from more than 100m. The worker died of his injuries while his colleague received a serious facture to his leg. The judge said that he had taken into consideration the resources available to the company, so that the ruling would not force the company to go into liquidation.
