Controversial Accident Law Passed

The French National Assembly has provoked fury among health and safety campaigners by passing a law which will tax the payouts from employers that people receive after an accident at work. This measure will apply from 2010 onwards. The government has responded to criticism by pointing out that this will bring these payouts into line with maternity and sick leave, which is also taxed.
