Czechs Open Up Environment Info

24 March 2009
The Czech government plans to make spatial information maps on the environment accessible to all. No special application will be needed to access the spatial data, which will be available on the government’s public administration website. Spatial information describes the physical location of objects. The initiative is part of the Czech government’s transposition into national legislation of the EU Directive on Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community (INSPIRE). But while the Ministry of the Environment is obliged to disclose this information, public access to spatial data can be refused for reasons of security.
