Danish Green Scheme Analysed

25 August 2009
An analysis of the Danish government’s 1.5bn kroner (€200m) ‘green renovation fund’ has concluded that money intended for energy efficient improvements did not achieve its desired effect. The research, carried out for the Ugebrevet A4 labour union, investigated the implementation of a fund set up in April with the ambition of boosting both the economy and the environment. The results revealed that some 55% of fund recipients would have continued with planned renovation projects even without state funding, 24% would have done part of the renovation work they were planning, while only 15% would have set aside their plans. Moreover, the fund only created 2,500 jobs – significantly less than the 4,000 expected.
