Death on the Transylvanian Highway

Two workers on Romania’s new Transylvanian Motorway were killed last week in separate incidents, leading to an investigation of labour practices on the site. One worker, aged 44, fell seven metres from a bridge and the other, 47, fell 20 metres from a viaduct. The Transylvanian Motorway is a flagship infrastructure project for Romania. The first section is expected to enter into use on 1 December – Romania’s national day.
