Denmark Pushes for Cleaner Farming

The Danish government has announced a new €1.8bn environmental protection initiative. The project will address, among other things, the loss of natural habitats and the promotion of sustainable agriculture. One aim is to cut annual greenhouse gas emissions in the farming sector by 700,000 tonnes per year. Other measures include increasing taxes on pesticides, additional acreage for organic production and reducing nitrogen-pollution. The plan also proposes to develop biogas and green energy sources.
