Italy’s major port unions held a national one-day strike this month in protest over unsafe working practices that have led to the deaths of dock workers. The Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl and Uiltrasporti unions have also called for a meeting with the Italian government to discuss measures to improve safety; they also want to see the introduction of training programmes and an improvement in working conditions on wharfs and terminals.
