Dutch Allergen Study

The cross-contamination of allergens during the formulation of food products is a real and present danger, says a new Dutch study. Researchers found that a product that was not labelled as “may contain” milk proteins actually contained concentrations at levels that could harm those with allergies. There are concerns within the food industry however that excessive use of warning labels about allergens could unnecessarily restricts consumer choice and also devalue the impact of important warnings.
