EU Not Doing Enough on New Fuels?

Finding synthetic fuels in order to reduce dependency on oil in transport is an important step in combating climate change, claims the Alliance for Synthetic Fuels in Europe (ASFE). Speaking at a conference during the EU’s Sustainable Energy Week, the Alliance said that fuels can be produced from natural gas (Gas to Liquid, GTL), coal (Coal to Liquid, CTL) or biomass (Biomass to Liquids, BTL). Industry has criticised the European Commission for a general lack of activity in this sphere, and for lagging behind when it comes to updating its list of possible energy alternatives.
