EU-OSHA Study Highlights Top Risks

31 March 2009
Some 74,000 work-related deaths a year are caused by hazardous substances, says the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (OSHA). Most dangerous substances are found in the chemical industry, farming, nursing and construction sectors. The report also warns that workers are being increasingly exposed to emerging dangers such as nanoparticles, new chemicals and new synthetic fibres. The report also finds that SMEs are more dangerous places to work than large scale companies, because of a lack of proper management of chemical risks. Hazardous substances can cause health problems such as asthma, infertility and cancer.
