Eastern Europe Going for Organic

Central and Eastern Europe offers great potential in terms of demand, production and export of organic food, according to the Chairman of the International Centre for Organic Agriculture of Central and Eastern Europe. The 4th Organic Marketing Forum, which was recently held in Warsaw, underlined a growing interest in organic agriculture. Poland for instance has experienced a rise of 50% in organic cultivated area and a 40% rise in the number of enterprises processing organic food in 2008. Organic markets are also flourishing in Eastern European countries, where regional initiatives to create local markets have increased. The Conference also revealed a growing interest in partnerships in the organic raw materials sector between Western and Eastern Europe.
