Employer Guilty Over Site Death

16 July 2009
A building site employer from the UK risks going to prison after pleading guilty over the death of one of his workers. A 15 year old was left to work unsupervised and died suddenly when a 7m-high wall fell on him. The worker had been asked to knock down the wall, which had been identified as unstable. The employer initially denied a charge of manslaughter by gross negligence, but afterwards pleaded guilty. The UK judges said that “all options are open” regarding the sentencing of the employer.
