24 March 2009
Energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions fell substantially in Denmark last year according to the Danish energy agency. Climate and Energy Minister Connie Hedegaard said that these achievements were the result of effective government policies and had nothing to do with the global recession. Energy use dropped by 1.9 % and CO2 emissions by 2.5% in Denmark, while GNP decreased by 1.3%, latest studies show. Greenhouse gas emissions fell by 4.7% and renewables contributed to 17.3% of net energy consumption.
