Environment Firm Fined for H&S

26 May 2009
The UK’s Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has fined MES Environmental, a company from Wolverhampton, after a 40-year-old employee fell from an overhead crane onto a concrete floor. The man suffered serious injuries including fractures to his skull, a broken collarbone and several broken ribs as he fell from a height of 6 metres. He had to stay in hospital for several weeks. Accidents like this could be prevented if companies assess the risks properly, says the HSE. Furthermore, it reminds companies that they are responsible for ensuring that all measures for preventing the risk of falling from height in the workplace are put in place.
