Europe Sets Renewable Energy Example

European financial incentives designed to encourage homeowners to use solar power have crossed the Atlantic. Gainesville is the first city in the US to introduce the so-called “feed-in-tariff” payment method, which obliges utilities to pay higher rates for green energy generated by citizens and businesses than they would for, say, coal-generated power. The initiative has proved to be very popular in Germany. Requiring utilities to pay higher rates for green power, however, is likely to lead to slightly higher electricity bills.
