European Bathing Water Improving

26 June 2009
Greece and Cyprus have the cleanest bathing waters in Europe while the purest lakes and rivers can be found in Finland, Sweden and Germany, according to a new report. The survey states that most of Europe’s 21,400 bathing sites have clean water. Poland however is reported as the worst country in Europe to go swimming in with 14.4% of all bathing water non-compliant with mandatory standards. A high number of polluted waters were also found in Denmark and Britain. The annual report is based on tests on bacteriological contamination, water colour, acidity and the presence of residues from detergents.
