Ewe’s Cheese for Heart Health

02 June 2009
Eating cheese made from ewe’s milk may help reduce problems related to heart disease, claims an Italian study. The research, conducted by the University of Florence, involved 10 adults with an average age of 52. They were given 200 grams of ewe’s cheese to consumer per week for a period of 10 weeks. According to the findings, ewe’s cheese, which is rich in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), produced favourable changes in inflammatory cytokines and platelet aggregation. These two markers are associated with atherosclerosis or a hardening of the arteries. This is known to be a cause of coronary heart disease (CHD).
