Factory Fined After Stabbing

02 September 2009
A food manufacturing company in South Derbyshire, UK has been fined €12,000 and ordered to pay €3,200 in legal costs after a butcher working on a turkey processing line suffered a 10cm deep stab wound to his abdomen. He survived the accident but required extensive surgery. The court ruled that the accident could have been prevented if the butcher had been issued with a chainmail apron. The stabbing was the most serious of four similar incidents recorded at the factory.
