Fatal Work Accidents Down 31%

Fatal accidents at work in Spain have dropped by 31.4% for the period January to September 2009 as compared to the same period last year. This has been attributed in part to rising unemployment. Trade unions and the government however insist that greater awareness of safety issues and stricter health and safety requirements have also played a significant role. The government launched its Third Strategy for Safety at Work yesterday, which has been allocated a budget of €136m.
