Fatal Work Accidents in Small Firms

29 April 2009
Most workers killed on UK construction sites last year worked for small companies or were self-employed, according to a Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians (UCATT) report. The study claims that the number of deaths was disproportionately high among firms with five people or less. The study says that the majority of the 118 workers killed last year were working on the refurbishment, repair and maintenance of buildings when they died. The union is now planning to campaign for increased resources spent on construction inspectors to improve safety.
