Finnish central government departments will be obliged to apply environmental criteria to all public procurement decisions by 2015. The Finnish government has also set an interim goal of making 70% of all public procurement decisions ‘green’ by 2010. This target is more ambitious than the non-binding goal of 50% by 2010 proposed by the European Commission. A non-binding goal of 50% by 2010 for local authorities has also been adopted by the Finnish government.
