Finland: Illegal GMOs Discovered

25 August 2009
A study produced by Finland’s Food Safety Authority has found that two of 29 products randomly tested for GM products were found to contain non-authorised genetically modified material. In one of the two cases, unauthorised GM BT63 rice was found in rice vermicelli. The product was subsequently withdrawn, destroyed and consumers informed. In the second case, a soy bean jelly was found to contain GM material in excess of the legal limit. The importers of the product were made to change their labelling and Finnish control authorities asked to investigate the importer’s controls more closely.
