Food Bug Found in Most Poultry

Campylobacter, a bacterium that causes 55,000 people to fall ill every year with symptoms including diarrhoea, cramping and abdominal pain is found in 65% of chicken sold in the UK according to Britain’s Food Standards Agency. Surprisingly for some, the bacterium was found to be more prevalent in free-range and organic birds than in battery raised chickens. According to the FSA, Campylobacter is the most common cause of food poisoning and kills 70 people a year.
