Food Firm Fined

24 February 2010
A food company has been fined in the UK following an accident in which a worker's hand was crushed in cabbage shredding machinery. The company admitted breaching Regulation 11(3) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998. The accident occurred when the worker was assisting with the clearing of a blockage. Investigators found that a guard that would have better protected the worker had been disabled to allow the machinery to run without it.
