Food Quality in Eastern Europe

The quality of food in Central and Eastern Europe has improved since accession, says a new study. The research, which will be published in October in the journal Food Policy, looked at agrafood trade development in eight countries (7 EU members: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania, Bulgaria as well as Croatia, which has implemented much of the EU’s legislation). The report argues that increased imports and open markets have created competitive pressure for these countries to improve food quality.
