French Losing Traditional Appetite

16 July 2009
The French are losing their appetite for traditional foods, according to a new study on consumer behaviour. The survey from AFSSA, the French food agency, examined eating patterns over the last ten years and found that young adults especially were eating more and more packaged and convenience foods. There has also been a 7% decrease in the consumption of bread and potatoes, while pasta and rice consumption have increased by 14%. 55 to 79 year-olds still cook more and eat more traditional foods like bread, cheese and soup. Home, however, remains the main place to eat for all age groups.
