GM Crops Down

Cultivation of genetically modified (GM) crops in Europe fell by 11% from 2008 to 2009, according to a new report. This contrasts with global GM cultivation, which increased by 7%. Europe’s decline follows Germany's recent decision to ban GM crops, along with continued hostility from Austria, France, Greece and Hungary. Spain accounted for 80% of all GM maize cultivated in the EU last year.
