German Gas Emissions

Greenhouse-gas emissions in Germany fell by 8.4% in 2009 due mainly to a contracting economy, according to the country’s environment ministry. Total emissions, including carbon dioxide, fell by 80 million metric tons. Germany is the biggest economy and emitter of greenhouse gases in the EU, though its economy shrank by 5% last year.
