Germany Launches Wind Power Project

19 May 2009
A new offshore wind power network will be integrated with Germany’s electricity grid by 2015, says the government. Over 800 kilometres of power lines will need to be installed in order to transport wind-generated electricity from northern Germany to the south, where major manufacturers such as BMW and BASF AG are based. The government also plans to include incentives for the construction of power storage facilities. Operators of storage facilities will be exempt from paying power network fees for a 10-year period. Germany is Europe’s largest wind power producer, according to the European Wind Energy Association.
