Germany: 48-Tonne Crane Crash

07 October 2009
A 48-tonne crane used on a building project in Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany came off its bearings and crashed into a nearby building. There was only one injury - a worker who was standing on a nearby lifting platform was thrown onto his back, but luckily most of the other workers on the site had moved off the platform and were working on a different section of the project when the accident happened. The worker was taken to hospital, where his injuries were described as non-critical. The cost of the damage to property has not yet been calculated but is said to be considerable.
