Germany and Climate Change

07 July 2009
Germany is the top performing G8 country when it comes to fighting climate change, according to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). It was the only country to get more than 50% from the organisation’s G8 Climate Scorecard. The scorecard takes into account improvements since 1990 in tackling greenhouse gases, current efforts and future initiatives. Germany registered success through setting mid-term goals, such as setting a target of a 40% reduction in greenhouse emissions by 2020. The authors of the report warn however that Germany is still only doing half of what it needs to in order to successfully fight climate change. The WWF says a 95% reduction in greenhouse gases from 1990 levels is required in order to slow climate change.
