Gold Mine Controversy

Hungary has asked Romania for information on the planned reopening of a controversial gold mine in the northwest of the country. There are reports that a Russian-owned company intends to reopen the gold mine, which in 2000 was the scene of an environmental disaster. A cyanide spill from the mine destroyed a huge amount of wildlife in the river Tisza, which flows into Hungary.
