Greek Firefighting Pilot Killed

31 August 2009
A Greek pilot died when the water-bombing plane he was flying on a fire-fighting mission crashed into the Aegean Sea near the island of Kefallonia. The pilot, who was 55 years old, is reported to have had thousands of hours of flying experience. The exact cause of the accident is as yet unknown; however technical fault with the Polish-made PZL (M-18 Dromader) he was flying is believed to be the most plausible explanation. The plane was not equipped with an ejection seat.
