Green Car Rally in Germany

11 May 2009
More than 200 teams from 29 countries gathered in Lausitz, Germany last Friday for the annual green car rally. The aim of the race is not to achieve the fastest time, but to be the most fuel-efficient. The top cars competing are capable of travelling the entire length of the UK 5 times on 4 litres of petrol, and current records are impressive. A team from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich created a hydrogen fuel cell car capable of travelling 3,836km on 4 litres in 2005. Furthermore, a car emitting just 0.5g/km of CO2 was developed in 2006. The average emissions of a passenger car in Europe are around 160g/km
